What if a student didn’t apply during their first year of eligibility?

Students remain eligible for one scholarship award through their third year of post-high school education. If they did not apply before freshman year, they may still apply during their sophomore or junior year. Applicants must be under the age of 24.

What is the maximum amount a student can be awarded in scholarships?

Eligible applicants may be selected to receive one $2,000 scholarship. Payment is made in the academic year following your selection.

Who conducts the selection process?

The scholarship competition, selection of award recipients, and the processing of scholarship payments are managed by the Sonnentag American Foundation. Applications are confidential, and awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Are students who are attending college abroad eligible to receive a Sonnentag American Foundation Scholarship?

Students studying abroad may be eligible for a scholarship if they meet the specific requirements.

Can students receive their scholarship if they transfer from one educational institution to another?

Students must notify the Sonnentag American Foundation if they plan to transfer to another educational institution during the school year before receiving their scholarship award. To ensure eligibility, it is the student’s responsibility to submit a paid second-semester fee statement from the institution they are transferring to, as well as a grade report for the first semester at the institution they attended.

If a student intends to use their scholarship award to pay their second-semester invoice, can they receive the money without a paid fee statement from the educational institution?

If a student cannot provide a second-semester fee statement but wishes to apply their scholarship award to their second-semester fee to enroll in an educational institution, the Sonnentag American Foundation must be notified in advance.

The request will be reviewed, and if the student continues to meet eligibility requirements, the scholarship will be disbursed directly to the student’s educational institution. It is the student’s responsibility to provide the Sonnentag American Foundation with the contact information for the institution’s financial aid office to enable direct communication. Funds will be sent directly to the institution in the student’s name before the beginning of the term or semester.

Do students lose their scholarship if they take a semester off?

Students must stay continuously enrolled in their educational program for both terms to receive a Sonnentag American Foundation scholarship. To be eligible for the scholarship, it is the student’s responsibility to submit a paid second-semester fee statement from the institution they will be attending, as well as a grade report for the first semester at the institution they attended.

Can the scholarship be applied toward graduate school?

This scholarship does not apply to graduate school. Scholarship funds may be used for post-high school education at a university, technical school, vocational school, or community college to earn specialized skills training, a certificate or diploma, or an academic degree for a specific field or career goal. Preference is given to students pursuing careers in Manufacturing, Construction, Engineering, Business, and the Skilled Trades.
